Special traffic plan in place for Indian PM Modi's visit

A special traffic plan is to come into effect in Colombo during the visit of Indian Prime Minister, who will arrive for the UN International Vesak Festival, the government news portal reported.

Indian Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at BIA at 6.00 p.m. on May 11. According to the Police, all the following routes and  by roads will be closed during the time the Indian PM will be travelling.

The travel arrangements are as follows :

He will leave for Gangaramaya at 6.15.p.m. from BIA through Katunayake Expressway,  Peliyagoda, Baseline road, Borella, D.S. Junction, Green Path, Nelum, Pokuna, Library roundabout, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mw, Flower Road, Pittala junction, and James Peries Mw.

He will leave for Hotel Taj Samudra from Gangaramaya at 7.15pm through Nawam Mw, Uththarananda Mw, Mohamad Makan Marker Mw, and Galle Face roundabout.

At 8.20 p.m. the Indian PM will leave for the President's House from the Hotel on Galle Face road via N.S.A. roundabout. He will return around 10.30 p.m. on the same route.


On the following day ( May 12) he will leave for BMICH from the the hotel at 9.05 a.m. through Galle Face roundabout, Collpetty Junction, Liberty Junction, Pittala Junction, Red Cross Junction, Library Junction, Glass House Junction, Nanda Motors, Independence roundabout, Independent Square, Nidahas Mw, Maitland Place Junction, and Bauddhaloka Mw.


At 10.50 a.m PM Modi will leave BMICH for Helipad at Police Field Force Headquarters through Baddhaloka Mw, Jawatta road,  Keppetipola Junction, and Keppetipola Mw.

The lane from Katunayake towards Colombo will be closed on May 11 from 5.45 p.m. until PM Modi exit from the Katunayake expressway. All vehicles towards Katunayake will be permitted to use the expressway.
