Three children have died today (Jun 08) after a cab which swerved off a main road in Kekirawa crashed into bystanders who were in the area, police said.
According to the Police, the accident had occured at around 7:50 am when a cab travelling from Dambulla to Kekirawa had skidded and hit four children on the road.
The children who had sustained severe injuries were admitted to the Kekirawa Hospital following which three of them had died. Eshan Tilakaratne, 14, Pasindu Herath, 15 and Lakshan Herath, 16 were among the victims of the accident.
The other child aged 18 has been transferred to the Damnbulla hospital for further treatment. The victims are residents of Korasagalle, police noted.
Meanwhile, the 54-year old cab driver who had fled the area following the mishap has been arrested. Kekirawa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
