Sri Lanka today congratulated the Maldivian Joint Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on his victory at the Presidential election held on Sunday.
The Foreign Ministry said the following in a statement
"Sri Lanka welcomes the Joint Opposition candidate Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih securing victory following the election in the Maldives where the people exercised their franchise in a decisive manner to uphold their commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
We commend the government and the people of the Maldives for the conduct of a successful election process that was free, fair, and peaceful.
we congratulate Mr. Solih on his victory and look forward to working closely with him and the people of the Maldives in pursuing the elevation of relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka to greater heights."
