Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (Sept 10) said Sri Lanka will be transformed into a hub in the Indian Ocean, citing development projects and plans to uplift the export economy.
"We hope to transform the Western Province into a beautiful city in the Indian Ocean," he said during the foundation laying ceremony of the Port Access Elevated Highway project.
The project will see the construction of an elevated highway connecting the Colombo Port city and the New Kelani Bridge on a loan worth USD 300 million issued by the Asian Development Bank.
During his address, the Prime Minister pointed out that the people cannot live under the economic systems which had been introduced during the British rule, and that export economy would be uplifted.
