Sri Lanka to build 100MW Solar Park

News

The Government is to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a 100 Megawatt (MW) Solar Park in Siyambalanduwa. This was after a proposal by Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya to conduct a feasibility study to construct the solar park was approved at yesterday's Cabinet meeting.

A total of 11.3MW of solar power is already connected to the national grid while about 30 MW are being generated under net metering, the Government noted.

There is currently a global trend in generating electricity through renewable energy sources and a priority has been given to solar power, it further stressed.

Various projects have been implemented to improve the use of solar power and it has been planned to construct three Solar Parks with 100 MW each.
