President Maithripala Sirisena today conferred additional powers on the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into alleged irregularities committed in respect of SriLankan Airlines Limited, Sri Lankan Catering Limited and Mihin Lanka (Pvt.) Limited so as to enable it to obtain bank details of those under investigation as well as details pertaining to them from the Inland Revenue Department.
The additional powers were vested by the President by way of a gazette notification issued on Monday.
The additional powers have been conferred at the requested of the commission for it to effectively accomplish the task entrusted to them in conducting inquiries and investigations.
The Commission consists Anil Gooneratne, Retired Judge of the Supreme Court, Rohan Amarasekara, Judge of the Court of Appeal, Piyasena Ranasinghe, Retired Judge of the High Court, Don Anthony Harold, Retired Deputy Auditor General and Ms. Wasantha Jayaseeli Kapugama Geeganage, Director General, Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board.
