Sri Lankan Ambassador-designate to Belgium and the European Union (EU) Grace Asirwatham assumed duties at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Brussels on June 17.
Upon assuming office, Ms. Asirwatham had emphasised the need to accomplish the goals of the Embassy this year, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Brussels said.
She had also observed economic ties must be strengthened between Sri Lanka, Belgium and especially the EU which is Sri Lanka’s largest export destination.
Ms. Asirwatham called on the Chief of Protocol of Belgium, the Head of Protocol of the European Commission, and religious leaders after arriving in Brussels, the Embassy said.
The newly appointed Ambassador Designate had also held meetings with representatives of the Sri Lankan community and Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka.
