A Sri Lankan has been appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis to the post of the Secretary of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID), Vatican News reported.
Msgr. Indunil Janakaratne Kodithuwakku Kankanamalage, is a member of the clergy of the Diocese of Badulla. He was serving as under-secretary to the PCID since 2012 prior to this appointment.
Msgr. Indunil holds a doctorate in missiology from the Pontifical Urban University at which he was later appointed as a Professor at the Faculty of Missiology.
The PCID is the central office of the Catholic Church for promoting interreligious dialogue in accordance with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council.
It is composed of about 30 members and some 50 councillors across the world from various backgrounds and expertise.
