A 39-year old Sri Lankan national who had close links with the terrorist group linked to the Easter Sunday bombings has been arrested in Myanmar.
According to Myanmar Police, A.S. Irshad Mohamed was arrested for overstaying his visa after arriving in the country on a tourist visa in January last year.
The Sri Lankan national is said to have been on the list of most wanted suspects in Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Myanmar noted.
Myanmar Police had taken steps to notfiy all hotels and inns registered under the Tourism Development Authority to provide information, if known, on any whereabouts of the suspect.
The suspect had been arrested when he had arrived at the Immigration and Emigration Department in order to renew his expired visa.
Irshad has been handed over to the Special Investigations Unit, Myanmar officials said adding that he is suspected to have close links with the Sri Lankan terrorist group.
