The 'RAAVANA-1' research satellite launched by two young Sri Lankan scientists will be released into the orbit today (Jun 17).
The satellite, which was launched into space in April this year, is currently stationed at NASA's International Space Station. It is expected to orbit the the Earth 400 kilometres away from the planet after its release into the orbit.
Tharindu Dayaratne and Dulani Chamikaat of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) had designed the research statellite at Japan's Kyushu Institute of Technology.
The research statellite which is Sri Lanka's first, weighs 1.5 kilograms.
