Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Chairman Kishu Gomes on Thursday resigned from the post after being just 9 + months in the job.
Mr. Gomes, who confirmed to Times Online that his resignation is effective from tomorrow Friday November 15, said he was stepping down to enable a new administration, after Saturday’s presidential election, to appoint a newcomer to the post, in line with traditional practice.
The outgoing Tourism Promotion chief underwent a tumultuous period dealing with the crisis in tourism after arrivals dropped sharply owing to the April 21 terrorist attacks on three churches and three luxury hotels.
He was also confronted with bureaucratic delays in launching global public relations and marketing campaigns worth millions of rupees.
Industry sources said the change is unlikely to impact on policy and administrative measures at the bureau. The chairmen of state agencies, including the SLTPB, are normally appointed by the minister in charge of the subject.
