A key illegal glyphosate distributor was arrested in Akuressa yesterday (Feb 20).
The arrest was set in motion by STF personnel attached to the Kokmaduwa Police Division following a tip-off received by the Matara District Deputy Agriculture Director's office.
It is reported that the suspects involved in the racket had distributed glyphosate across several shops in the Southern Province after having smuggled them into the country from India.
The value of the seizure has not been estimated as of yet.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects had been enaging in this practice for several years and had accumulated large sums of money as a result.
Akuressa Police are conducting further investigations in this regard.
