The Special Task Force (STF) will conduct a special operation to arrest those involved in illegal sand mining in Ariyalai, Jaffna and its surrounding areas, Senior DIG M R Latiff told Times Online.
He added that this special operation comes in the wake of an attack on STF personnel who attempted to arrest five suspects in Ariyalai over charges of illegal sand mining last Sunday.
This special operation would be conducted on a 24-hour basis, Senior DIG Latiff said adding that checks on sand mining permits would be conducted in these areas.
Meanwhile, the five suspects who were arrested last Sunday have been remanded until April 01.
