Public is advised to take safety precautions as strong winds and lightning will prevail as thundershowers are expected throughout the day, Meteorology Department warned.
“Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces. Meanwhile, fairly heavy rainfalls are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, the Department said.
Uva Province and Batticaloa and Ampara districts will receive rain after 2 p.m.
Public is advised to seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees, to avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies, to avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances during thunderstorms and avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc. Public is also requested to be cautious of fallen trees and power lines.
