Buses which do not meet the necessary regulatory standards will not be imported in future, Transport Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said yesterday (Mar 15).
He made this remark while speaking to the media after calling on the Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya-Mahanayake Chapter.
The Minister also pointed out that certain buses which were operating at present are not of a high standard.
He had also briefed the chief prelate on certain lands belonging to the Asgiri Maha Viharaya which would be accquired by the government in order to construct a new rail route.
The new rail route would operate from Kurunegala to Habarana via Dambulla, Minister Ranatunga said.
