Update : Constitutional Council approves President’s nomination for CJ
The Constitutional Council has approved President Maithripala Sirisena’s nomination for the position of Chief Justice.
The Council chaired by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya convened at the Parliamentary Complex at 12 noon today (Oct 12) where the vacant position of Chief Justice was discussed during the meeting while the council approved the President’s nomination to the position, the Speaker’s Office said.
The Council’s decision has been notified to the President, a statement from the Speaker’s Office said.

Justice Nalin Perera tipped to assume office as Chief Justice
Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera who was nominated by President Maithripala Sirisena, according to sources is tipped to be appointed as the 46th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
The Constitutional Council convened a meeting at noon to reach a final decision pertaining to the new appointment for the post.
The decision to appoint the new Chief Justice comes following the retirement of Chief Justice Priyasad Dep who retired from his service earlier today.
