Suspect in Mt. Lavinia state bank robbery nabbed

A suspect who allegedly robbed a state bank branch in Mount Lavinia yesterday has been arrested.

Police said a man had entered the bank branch located on Galle Road last afternoon and had requested a teller at the counter to change a Rs.1000 note in his possession. As she was in the process of changing the note when the suspect had suddenly jumped over the counter, and fled with Rs.15, 000 in cash which were in the drawer. 

Acting on a call made over the 119 emergency hotline, Mt. Lavinia Police managed to apprehend the suspect along with the car he had come in to commit the crime. The stolen cash was also recovered from his possession, police added. 

The arrested suspect is a 32-year-old resident of Boralesgamuwa. He is due to be produced before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate's Court today. Mt. Lavinia Police is investigating.
