An individual who had arrived at the Central Mail Exchange to collect a parcel with naroctics worth Rs 27 million has been arrested today (Jul 4), the customs department said.
According to customs officials, 5500 'Ice' narcotic tablets had been seized from six parcels which had been smuggled from Belgium. The suspect has been identified as a 52-year old resident of Mount Lavinia.
This is the largest haul of narcotics seized by the customs so far at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo Port, and the Central Mail Exchange, Customs Spokesman Lal Ariyarathne said.
