A suspect who had demanded a ransom from a woman in the Kalutara area has been remanded until July 02, police said.
Police said that a complaint had been filed against the suspect on June 17 for threatening a woman and demanding a ransom. Accordingly, the suspect had been arrested in the vicinity of the Kalutara Urban Council last afternoon.
Two mobile phones, two SIM cards, eight eZ cash (a mobile payment service) receipts, and two receipts acknowledging the withdrawal of money from a bank had been seized from the suspect.
According to the police, the suspect is a 25-year old resident of Panadura. He was remanded after being produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Court yesterday.
