A person who was remanded for attempting to bribe the OIC of the Horowpathana Police was granted bail today (Jun 18).
Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the suspect to be released on a cash bail of Rs 15,000 and four surety bails worth Rs 100,000 each.
The individual had attempted to bribe the police officer in order to release a suspect who had been remanded over his alleged links with the banned National Thowheed Jamath group.
He was arrested while providing Rs 250,000 of the bribe as an advance payment of the total bribe worth Rs 500,000.
The suspect was instructed to be present before court during the next hearing which will take place on September 10.
