Suspects in Ambalantota clashes further remanded

Twenty-four of suspects who had been in remand custody for allegedly causing damage to public property during clashes in Ambalantota town and main roads nearby on January 7 have been remanded in custody till January 30 by the Hambantota Magistrate's Court. The order to further remand the suspects was given after they were produced before courts on Monday (16). 

A total of 34 suspects who had been remanded in custody were produced before court on Monday. Ten of those suspects, including several teenagers aged 16 and 17 years, were released on bail.

Meanwhile, five other suspects who were arrested by police on the night of January 15 in connection with the incident were also produced before the Hambantota Magistrate on Monday. They too were ordered remanded in custody till January 30.
