Eight persons including alleged elephant racketeer Niraj Roshan alias 'Ali Roshan', accused of illegally possessing five elephant calves filed objections against their charges before a High Court trial-at-bar today (Sept 18).
During today's hearing before the three-member trial-at-bar, the accused represented by their lawyers argued that there were flaws in the charges filed against them.
The AG has charged the suspects under 33 counts for violating the Fauna and Flora Act and also the Public Property Act.
Accordingly, High Court judge Vikum Kaluaraachchi ordered that the case would be postponed until October 2 to obtain the stance of the Attorney General (AG) over this matter.
The other accused in the case are Nishan Dhammika, Upali Padmasiri, Priyanka Sanjeewani, Chanuka Gamlath, Gamage Jayalath and Damith Chathuranga.
