Three suspects who posed as officers from the Walana Anti-Vice Squad and abducted two women from an ayurvedic spa in Meegaswewa, Habarana yesterday (12) have been taken into police custody.
Police Media Unit said the suspects, aged 30, 39 and 56 years, are residents of Kurunegala, Trincomalee and Buttala.
They were taken into custody along with a blue coloured cap stamped with a police logo, an identity card cover with police markings and a black coloured jeep similar to ones used by police that they had used to carry out the abduction.
Further investigations have revealed that the suspects had been visiting various locations posing as officers from the Walana Anti-Vice Squad for some time and deceiving members of the public.
The suspects are due to be produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate's Court today (13) for an identification parade. Habarana Police are conducting further investigations.
Police also said the public can call the following number to verify whether those claiming to be from the Walana Anti-Vice Squad are indeed from that unit. The number can also be used to inform on any corruption related activities.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.
The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
