Teachers and Principals across the country will refrain from services and use their sick leave allowance on March 13 to urge the government to fulfill their demands, the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) said.
Several teacher's trade unions are expected to join hands in this protest gesture by calling on the government to resolve salary anomalies which have been prevalent in their sector since 1997, the CTU claimed.
Trade unions have also taken measures to notify the Secretary to the Ministry of Education regarding the trade union action.
The protestors are calling on the government to allocate six percent of the country's Gross Domestic Production (GDP) for the education sector while also urging that the salaries of teacher's and principals be increased.
"This year's budget has not addressed this issue despite recommendations being sent by the Ranugge Committee and the Education Ministry in this regard" CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said.
