Ten persons have been arrested for fishing using expolosives in the seas off Karaitivu, Periyaarachchal and Uchchamunai yesterday (Apr 10).
The arrest was carried out by officers attached to the North Western Naval Command, Navy said.
Four dinghies and two canoes were taken into custody along with the suspects. Investigations have revealed that the group of fishermen did not possess a valid license to engage in fishing.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Negombo and Kalpitiya areas, aged from 20 to 51. They have been handed over to the Puttalam Fisheries Inspector along with the fishing gear, and Outboard Motor (OBM)'s for further investigations.
