Ten houses at an estate in Talawakelle were destroyed due to a fire which erupted at 2:30 am today (Jun 19).
The fire which caused both full and partial damages to the houses, had affected 28 persons belonging to five families. They have been temporarily sheltered at the Stalin Tamil Vidyalaya.
Area residents had taken initial steps to collectively douse the fire which had destroyed housing appliances, personal documents, jewellery, and uniforms of students.
The cause of the fire has not been established yet. The Talawakelle and Nuwara Eliya Police are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
