Ten Indian fishermen arrested by Navy

The Srilankan navy apprehended ten Indian fishermen and their boat on charges of trespassing into the territorial waters of the island nation.According to the navy website, the navy assisted the country's coast guard in arresting 10 Indian fishermen and their boat, 26 nautical miles off Point Pedro. 

The arrested fishermen were taken to Karainagar naval base and were later handed over to department of aquatic resources in Jaffna for further prosecution. 

U Arulanandam of the Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen in Pamban said these fishermen hailed from Karaikal in the Union territory of Puducherry. They were on a multi-day fishing expedition. (The Times of India)
