UPDATE : Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne has been arrested a short while ago. He is currently at the Fort Magistrate Court.
CDS Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne appeared before the court and surrendered himself. Fort Magistrate ordered the CID to arrest Admiral Wijegunaratne if there was sufficient evidence to prove that he had aided and abetted Navy Sampath, to evade court.
Tense situation as media personnel attacked after CDS Wijegunaratne leaves court; asked to return to court in civvies
A tense situation erupted ouside the Fort Magistrate's Court today when Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne was leaving the court premises.
It is alleged that individuals dressed in civvies reported to be private security personnel who accompanied Mr Wijegunaratne to court today had assaulted media personnel outside the court premises.
Chief of Defence Staff Admiral WIjegunaratne who is alleged to have harboured 'Navy Sampath' a chief suspect in the abduction of eleven youth in 2008, reported before the Fort Magistrate's Court this morning. He was ordered to return at 2.30pm in civilian clothing by the magistrate .
