A thief who had broken into a financial company in Panadura has been injured after police opened fire at him today (Jun 16).
Crime branch police officers of the Horana Police had been alerted regarding a break-in at the company through an emergency bell which had been connected to the police station.
According to the police, the thief had pointed a gun at a team of police officers who had been dispatched to the scene of the crime. A Police officer had then fired shots at the leg of the suspect.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at the Horana hospital under police protection.
Police officers who had confiscated some weapons from the suspect had then discovered that he was in possession of only a toy gun.
