The third extension of the State of Emergency was passed in Parliament with 42 votes in favour today (Jul 31).
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Joint Opposition voted in favour while two Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians voted against the extension.
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna was absent during the vote.
President Maithripala Sirisena had issued a gazette notification extending Emergency Regulations for the third time on July 22.
