Thirty Sri Lankan domestic workers who faced abuse by members of a foreign employment agency in Kuwait, have returned to the island today (Jul 21).
It is reported that the group had harassed these workers by posing as police officers, while also stealing their belongings including cash, electronic equipment and jewellery.
The workers claim that they had been forcefully taken away from their lodging, detained and assaulted by the employment agency officers at a different place, before being left on the streets to be arrested by the Police.
Steps had been taken to return these workers to the island after attempts made by the Kuwait police to resolve this issue with the co-ordination of the Sri Lankan embassy proved futile.
