Public Health Inspector Arrested by Anti-Corruption Unit for Taking 6,000 Rupees Bribe in Karadiyanaru, Batticaloa District
A Public Health Inspector who took a bribe of 6,000 Rupees to issue a permit to a shop in Karadiyanaru, Batticaloa, was rounded up and arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit on Tuesday (29), the Anti-Corruption Unit said.
When a person from the area requested a Public Health Inspector working in the Karadiyanaru Health Unit to set up a food stall, he had demanded 6,000 Rupees as a bribe.
Following this, the shop owner filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission in Colombo, and on their instructions, the Anti-Corruption Unit was conducting undercover surveillance on the street in the Karadiyanaru area at around 12.00 noon today, the day of the incident.
At that time, the Public Health Inspector, who was riding a motorcycle, had accepted a bribe of Rs. 6,000 from the shop owner, and the Anti-Corruption Unit surrounded and arrested him.
The arrested person is 54 years old and the Anti-Corruption Unit said that steps are being taken to produce him in court.
