Three persons have been arrested for attacking a tipper truck which had been transporting waste from Colombo to Aruwakkalu today (Aug 19).
Police said the suspects had attacked three tipper-trucks by pelting stones, at around 1 am along the Puttalam - Mannar road. Slight damages had been caused to the side doors of the vehicles.
Residents of Aruwakkalu have repeatedly expressed strong objection towards the dumping of waste at a sanitary landfill in the area.
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
