A three day special holiday has been declared for the public sector excluding the District Secretary offices, banking and other selected sectors to maintain essential services.
The government also has appealed that the holiday be extended to the private sector.
The Divisional secretary offices, health sector , transport sector and other essential services will not be entitled to the holiday.
The government did not explain as to why the holiday was not extended to the District Secreatry offices, but sources said they were being kept open to receive nominations for the elections.
The extension of the holiday is due to be reviewed later.
The holiday, from Tuesday to Thursday was around midnight following governemnt consultations as an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
