Four persons, including three Sri Lankan nationals, were arrested at the Ramanathapuram Railway station near Rameswaram,Tamil Nadu today for allegedly attempting to smuggle heroin weighing 2 kgs to Sri Lanka, the Press Trust of India reported.
Based on a tip-off, the Q Branch police rushed to Ramanthapuram Railway Station and saw Kannan (29) of Ramanthapuram, Yogeswaran (50), Mohammed Kansoor (45) and Mohammed Niroz (55) from Sri Lanka, acting suspiciously, police said.
When the officials conducted a check, the suspects were found to be carrying a bag containing 2 kgs of adulterated heroin meant for sale.
The accused had plotted to transport it to Sri Lanka by train, they added. The arrested are being interrogated by officials of Narcotics Intelligence Bureau.
