A three-member committee has been appointed by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale to probe into the harassment of inmates which is alleged to have taken place at the Agunukolapelassa prison.
The committee was appointed after the Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners filed a complaint at the CID while also submitting CCTV footage corroborating claims that the rights of the prisoners were violated during this incident in November last year.
The three-member committee will be headed by Prisons Commissioner Thushara Upuldeniya and is expected to submit its report to the Commissioner General of Prisons Nishan Dhanasinghe by next Monday.
Minister Athukorale said that she appointed the committee after having considered the CCTV footage.
