Three persons were killed and five others were injured in three different accidents reported during the past 24 hours in the Kathankudy, Minuwangoda and Mahiyanganaya police areas, Police said.
Two motor cyclist were killed in the Thalankuda area of the Kathankudy Police area last night when they were involved in an accident with a luxury bus. The driver of the bus had fled the scene while villages attacked by the bus causing severe damages.
In Minuwangoda a tipper transporting soil had fallen into a trench and in the process a motorcyclist approaching from the opposite direction had hit the tipper. The motorcyclist was killed instantly.
Police explained that when the tipper had fallen into the trench , the rear part of the vehicle was on the opposite lane of the road and thereby the oncoming motorcyclist hat hit the tipper.
In Mahiyangana , a vehicle carrying a group of lecturers attached to the Uva-Wellassa university ran off the road causing injuries to all five of them. A pregnant woman was among the injured.
