Three persons were arrested in Jaffna by the Navy today ( July 17) for illegally transporting beedi and tobacco leaves.
The arrest had been carried after naval officers attached to the Northern Naval Command had recovered the narcotics upon a search carried out on a lorry at a roadblock in the Mandaitivu Junction.
Accordingly, 1359 kilos of beedi leaves packed in 44 parcels and 1034 kilos of tobacco leaves packed in 31 parcels had been recovered during the search.
The suspects are between the ages of 37 and 47, Navy said adding that they would be handed over to the Jaffna Customs for further investigations.
