Three suspects were nabbed with illicit spirits worth more than Rs 1 million in Ja-Ela today (Jun 19), the Excise Department said.
Excise officials said the suspects had mixed 30 percent volume of water to 525 litres of spirits in order to make it suitable for consumption.
Investigations have shown that the suspects had hidden the liqour in polythene bags behind a residence in which they were arrested.
They had attempted to transport the spirits to another area after bringing them to a residence in Ja-Ela.
The main suspect, a 48-year old is expected to be produced before the Meegamuwa Magistrate's Court today.
