A three-wheel driver has been injured after police fired shots at him for ignoring signals to stop at a roadblock in Gampaha, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said today (Jun 20).
The incident had taken place at around 3:10 pm, police noted adding that the suspect has been admitted to the Gampaha Hospital.
According to the police, an Inspector attached to the Gampaha police had fired shots at the victim while giving chase to him on a police jeep.
Investigations have revealed that the driver, a 32-year old resident of Bemmulla had been drunk at the time of the accident, police said.
