Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) today (Sept 10) filed complaints at the Commission to Investigation Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against eight ministers over their failure to submit asset declarations for 2018/19.
TISL Executive Director Asoka Obeysekere said complaints were filed against the following Ministers - Navin Dissanayake, Harin Fernando, Mano Ganesan, M.H.A. Haleem, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Sajith Premadasa, and Ravi Karunanayake.
Speaking to reporters after filing the complaints, Mr. Obeysekere noted that these ministers had not submitted their asset declarations although the deadline to make such submissions had been fixed for June 30.
According to the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law, all parliamentarians must submit their asset declarations every year failing which they could be sentenced to a fine of Rs 1000 and / or an imprisonment term not exceeding an year.
