UNP National list MP Tissa Attanayake who was in remand custody for preparing a forged document ahead of the presidential elections was today released on bail by the Fort Magistrate. Magistrate Thilina Gamage released the suspect on a personal bail of Rs. one million after noting that there was no evidence to suggest that Mr Attanayake had prepared the forged document. The case will be called on March 11. Mr Attanayake, producing a document purportedly signed by the then presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena and the then opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said such agreement was harmful to the country. However, Mr Sirisena and Mr Wickremesinghe denied the claim. Mr Attanayake claimed that the document was received by him the day he assumed duties as Health minister, after crossing over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government.
