A Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian representing Mannar District told the Parliament that final rites of COVID-19 victims should be held according to their own religious beliefs in their respective areas and not in a designated area selected in Mannar as currently being considered by the government authorities.
Speaking at the Budget debate in Parliament today, TNA MP Charles Nirmalanathan stressed that final rites of COVID-19 victims should be allowed to hold according to their own religious beliefs indicating government mandatory cremation of all the victims including Muslims.
Citing media reports that suggested, Prime Minister Mahida Rajapaksa proposed to bury the COVID-19 victims in a designated area in Mannar, MP Nirmalanathan said that his electorate is totally against the idea and might lead to disharmony among communities.
