Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka slumped heavily by 70 per cent in May, largely due to visitors avoiding the country after the Easter Sunday attacks in April on three tourist hotels and three churches.
Arrivals last month totalled approximately 37,000 from 129,000 in the same May 2018, Tourism Promotion Bureau chief Kishu Gomes told a media briefing in Colombo on Tuesday. The authorities expect the numbers to improve with about a 30-40 per cent drop in June.
Mr. Gomes believes the numbers should improve by July when most travel advisories are softened by then. (Sunimalee)
