Trade unions cannot protest against the appointment of a new Customs Director General since it was a cabinet decision, Minister Mangala Samaraweera said yesterday.
Addressing a meeting with Customs trade union activists, the Finance and Mass Media Minister had said that cabinet had the power to appoint efficient officers who could implement the state's policies, to high ranking positions.
Minister Samaraweera had also requested the trade union officials to cooperate with the newly appointed Acting Director General and work accordingly.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
