Traffic lane rules which were being tested across main towns in the recent past will be in operation from today (May 27), Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He pointed out that these rules which revolve around the manner in which vehicles should change traffic lanes, had contributed towards decreasing motor accidents and easing traffic flow.
The Spokesman noted that drivers will be given a two week grace period to abide by these rules across areas in which these regulations will be in effect. Upon completion of the grace period, drivers who breach such rules will be severely dealt with, Mr. Gunasekara said.
He added that police officers clad in civil attire will also be deployed to apprehend such law breaking drivers.
