A special discussion is to take place at the Transport Ministry as rail unions continue their indefinite strike which was launched at midnight, State Transport Minister Ashok Abeysinghe said.
However, he claimed that the Ministry has not been officially informed of this strike action.
Unions had launched a strike after the Transport Ministry had allegedly exerted pressure on the Railways General Manager for taking diciplinary action on an officer who had consume liquor during work hours.
Accordingly, no trains have been operating since today (Jul 4) morning, the Railways Department stated.
However, State Minister Abeysinghe noted that they would provide a speedy solution to this issue following today's meeting with officials at the Ministry.
