Transportation along the Thalgodapitiya - Matale road which had been obstructed due to a protest concerning the death of a prisoner has been restored to normal, police said.
Police said the suspect who was facing an arrest warrant, had been apprehended on December 27 last year before being remanded on December 29 by the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court.
He had died while in remand at the Kegalla Remand Prison.
A group including relatives of the suspect had staged a protest along Thalgodapitiya - Matale road today (Jan 3) blaming prison officials over the incident while urging an investigation into the matter.
Accordingly, the senior police officer in charge of the area had met with the protestors and brought the situation under control, the Police Headquarters said.
