The temporary blockage which was imposed on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Viber and Facebook, was lifted this evening.
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Director General Shyamal Jayatilaka confirmed that the blockage had been lifted today (May 17).
The government had decided to block access to all social media platforms in a bid to curb the spread of hate speech after violence erupted in certain parts of the country recently.
