Two tea plucking machines are expected to be imported from Japanese Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd in order to cover up the shortage of estate workers, Plantations Ministry Secretary J A Ranjith said.
Each machine could be operated by two persons and would assist in plucking tea from a large expanse of tea estates, Mr. Ranjith noted adding that a test run is being carried out at present.
Accordingly, these machines will be imported before the end of this year if the trial run proves to be successful, he said.
